The Kills Announce Winter Tour Dates

Tuesday, 01 November 2011 09:49
UK duo The Kills (Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart) will be returning to North America with dates in January and February 2012. The tour will be making stops at Chicago’s Rivera, Austin’s Stubbs, DC’s 9:30 Club and will culminate in their return to NYC’s Terminal 5 for the band’s 10th anniversary, which they’ll celebrate with a special show for the occasion. Jeff the Brotherhood and Hunters will join them on all dates. Ticket presale begins today at 3:00 PM local time to each venue. To purchase, click HERE.
The band is currently on tour in South America and will be touring in Europe from early November. The band recently played David Lynch’s Club Silencio in Paris, performed electrifying sets at Lollapalooza and Bumbershoot and have appeared on Conan, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Last Call with Carson Daly in support of their latest offering, Blood Pressures (Domino). Ten years in, the band are at the peak of their powers, with one of the most stunning live shows of any contemporary rock band.
.
The Kills have released a new video for their track “Baby Says,” directed by Ben Crook. The video’s style is reminiscent of Almadovar meets Wong Kar Wai; a heartbreaking look at a man living in one of Barcelona’s subcultures. Watch “Baby Says” HERE
.
The Kills are partnering with indie record stores for Black Friday (November 25) by offering an exclusive limited-edition postcard flexi disc single of “The Last Goodbye” with any purchase at participating stores while supplies last.
.
Praise for The Kills Live Shows:
“Singer Alison Mosshart proved yet again why she’s one of rock’s best frontwomen, convulsing across the stage with reckless abandon during recent tunes “Satellite” and “Future Starts Slow.” – SPIN
.
“And the duo’s lusty performances eagerly play up the ambiguity of their platonic partnership. It’s a quality that defines them as much as Mosshart’s feverish moan, Hince’s hand-slashing guitar riffs, and the synthetic beats…’” – Pitchfork
.
“Watching them lock into each other’s groove is a beautiful thing.” – KCRW

The Kills cover "Silent Night"

Friday, 16 December 2011 14:10

“Silent Night” is one of the holiday season’s most somber and emotionally stirring carols. In the hands of The Kills, who recorded their rendition during a recent special session for BBC 6 Music, the song becomes something else entirely. It’s decidedly just as lonesome sounding, but there’s an especially creepy air to this version, thanks in part to Alison Mosshart’s stripped-down vocal performance and a few key lyrical changes (it may be almost Xmas, but she’ll still eat your face, apparently). Get in the slightly disturbed holiday spirit by taking a listen below (via Some Kind of Awesome).

.
After taking 600 rolls of film and over 20,000 photographs, The Kills are excited to announce Dream and Drive, a book of photographs by their friend and longtime collaborator, photographer Kenneth Cappello set for release on September 4th, 2012 (August 16th world ex N. America and Canada). Dream and Drive documents over nine years of the band’s career and captures Alison and Jamie in their most playful, private, intense and intimate moments, both on stage and off as they conquer the world one stage and city at a time. Dream and Drive also includes a forward written by Alison Mosshart herself. The book will be sold at select record and book stores; pre-order HERE.
.
Kenneth and The Kills’ worlds collided in 2003; both in Paris, The Kills were shooting scenes for the film ‘I Hate The Way You Love’ in the basement of a clothing store, Kenneth and his camera happened to be hanging out and shot photos of the band as they worked. From Paris to Coney Island, from the Chelsea Hotel to out onto the road, so began their time together. Kenneth is truly part of The Kills family.
.
Photography has been an inherent part of The Kills’ DNA since its conception ten years ago. From photo-booth laden artwork, to photographing their own magazine shoots; from exhibiting their own extensive polaroid collection, to setting up photo-booths for fans at their recent New York show – the band are renowned for their passion and involvement in arts other than music.
.
After celebrating their 10th anniversary as a band in February of 2012, The Kills will be taking the stage again with a number of European festivals and a few select US dates; list of dates below. Ten years in, the band are at the peak of their powers.
.
Their fourth album Blood Pressures (Domino), released last year, found The Kills delivering their vivid and uniquely gritty post-blues, but with a new level of thoughtfulness and depth not yet explored by the duo. An album tinged with wistfulness and vulnerability, it has an enduring sense of intricacy and richness that intensely blends with their ever-compelling songwriting.
