Six-piece British band Molotov Jukebox
, self-described purveyors of "gypstep", has released a new single, a cover of The Temptations' classic "Get Ready." Covers are so often hard to pull off, but they've managed to catch that perfect combination of instantly identifiable as an old favorite while marking it as unmistakably their own. It's nothing but a good time, from the opening notes of the accordion to the fluidity of the bass as it carries the melody to that last blast of the trumpet. Frontwoman Natalia Tena (also a charismatic actress known for her roles in Harry Potter and Game of Thrones) leads us along a rollicking path filled with soulful vocals, a trumpet solo where Angus Moncrieff is allowed to shine, and a lovely bridge marked by agile foreplay between bass player Tom Wilson and guitarist Adam Burke. Though the lyrics are ostensibly aimed at a would-be lover, one can't help but get the impression that Tena, as spokesperson for the group, is actually speaking to the world at large. They'll make you love them, too, so get ready, world, 'cos here Molotov Jukebox comes.
Rounded out by violinist Sam Apley and drummer Max Burnett-Wain, Molotov Jukebox has been building a steady following of their own brand of genre-hopping music since 2009, aided by a constant presence on the British festival scene as well as appearances at the Harry Potter wrap parties and, more recently, two shows supporting popular British indie rock band The Kooks on their European tour. Look for more Molotov Jukebox in 2012 with the release of a new EP and rumors of another winter tour in Brazil.
